GENERAL
In Vehicular actuated mode, systems operated the Traffic lights by detecting the movement of the arriving vehicles in the controlled zone. Detector loops are installed below the ground at suitable points for sensing the arrival of vehicles. The loop is connected to and Electronic vehicle detector. This is a very precise and discriminatory device with adjustable sensitivity and gives an input signal to the controller every time a vehicle passes over the sensor. The controller operates the Traffic lights as per a pre-scheduled flexible program. Each Road Exit movement is associated with a minimum Green and Maximum Green Time, which is programmed into the memory of the controller as per requirement. The minimum time is the time for which the Road will get green signal once the right of the way is awarded. The time is extended automatically when more vehicles are detected for passage in the same direction. The green time is terminated (the maximum green time) if there is demand from other directions.
SUITABILITY
as 4-phase 8 detector controller suitable for a 4 arm Intersection and discriminating between the straight going traffic and the tuning traffic. The controller automatically schedules the timings on the basis of information provided by the Vehicle sensors and the program fed into the MCU. This system is particularly suitable for Intersections where there is no fixed or uniform or regular pattern of traffic movement and the traffic density. The controller adjusts the timings of the traffic phases on the basis of actual requirement as computed by the data fed by the detectors.
EQUIPEMNT
The essential equipment for the system will comprise following items.
RED, AMBER and GREEN traffic lights signal as per the layout plan and requirement for each intersection.
Signal posts for the Traffic Signal Lights
Vehicle detectors as per the layout plan.
Vehicle Detector Unit .( Loop detector card Unit )
Cable and other installation material as required.
EXPLANATION OF THE TIMINGS
VEHICULAR MODE OPERATION
min is the Minimum Green time for which the signal is made green to allow the vehicle to enter into the Intersection. It should be equal to clear at least five vehicles, which may be waiting between the signal Stop line and the Detection loop. in the controlled lane
max is the maximum green time. In case there are vehicles waiting at some other road lane, the Total Green time including the extensions is limited to this Time.
All the timings are programmable at site and also through the Pc (RS 232 serial comm..)
There is a special comm.. Port RS 422 (4 ports) are provided for count down timer attached on each road and will display the time remaining in each cycle and will also indicate the changes as and when demand is send by CPU.
System is very flexible and can be programmed for fixed time / Actuated mode as required in The day plan- all the Outputs of controller can be programmed and setting of scheme can be done with help of windows based software.
As stated above, is possible to re-programmed the timings at site and the procedure for the same is given in next section,
